Organic Food for Healthy Kids
It is difficult of course to get kids to eat healthy foods in general so how you going to get them to eat organic food? Well, don’t fret as it’s not really all that difficult. Organic simply means that the food has to be grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilizers or other chemical growth inducers. Organic animals must be fed food that has not been treated with antibiotics and all products must be certified organic in order to be called organic. The use of artificial fertilizer in non-organic growing may result in larger crop production, but, with organic food, you’ll actually get more food in each serving. Processing, picking before ripe and longer storage of non-organic food strips it of its nutrients. Organic food retains its natural nutrients and is therefore a healthier alternative and you will more likely get more of your recommended daily allowance than with non-organic food. A plants natural defense system will also be stronger in organic products because it allows the plant to rely on itself without any artificial fertilizer.
If your child likes to eat vegetables or fruits then you will have an easier time getting them to eat healthy and organic. Truthfully, there really is no need to tell your children that something is organic, unless they are old enough and are really curious. If they are curious, you can simply tell them that their food has just been grown without any chemicals and will actually taste better. You can make it a game, if you like. Find a fruit that your child likes such as an apple and buy one that is certified organic and one that is not. Cut them into slices and then ask your child to take a slice of one and then a slice of the other only you know which is which. See if they can tell the difference. Most likely they will be able to tell the difference as most organic fruit tastes better than non-organic. There are several different companies that sell organic food, such as Kashi and Earths Best. They make crackers, snack bars, cereals, cookies, etc. Some even have themes that your children will recognize which may make them more apt to try your healthy offerings.
